Authoritarianism is a form of social organization characterized by the surrender of power. This contrasts with individualism and democracy. In politics, an authoritarian government is one in which political power restrains a leader. Authoritarianism is also commonly referred to as authoritarian political ideology, namely a form of government characterized by power only in the state or certain individuals, without considering the degree of individual freedom.
Authoritarianism differs from totalitarianism in the social and economic institutions that exist, which are not under government control. This system is usually opposed to democracy, so that in general government power is obtained without democratic elections.

Hubungan antara ekonomi dan politik adalah, ekonomi berkaitan dengan pengalokasian sumber daya di suatu wilayah untuk memenuhi kebutuhan hidup manusia. Sedangkan politik berkaitan dengan kekuasaan penyelenggaraan pemerintahan dlam suatu negara.
