Dalam kisah Mahabarata versi Wayang Purwa/Wayang Jawa, lelakon/lelaku/perilaku semacam itu, salah satunya dicontohkan oleh Begawan Abiyoso kakek Pendawa dan Kurawa.
Setelah menyelesaikan tugas dan menyerahkan tahta Kerajaan Hastina Pura kepada Raden Pandu Dewanata, putra ke-2 nya, beliau meninggalkan istana dan bermukim di pertapaan.
