Dalam ilmu politik, rekayasa politik adalah perancangan lembaga-lembaga politik dalam suatu masyarakat dan sering kali melibatkan penggunaan keputusan-keputusan di atas kertas, dalam bentuk undang-undang, referendum, peraturan daerah, atau lainnya, untuk mencoba mencapai suatu efek yang diinginkan.

Rekayasa politik adalah penerapan rekayasa, ilmu komputer, matematika, atau ilmu pengetahuan alam untuk memecahkan masalah dalam politik . Politik komputasional adalah penerapan ilmu komputer atau matematika untuk memecahkan masalah dalam politik.
